Marshalltown Blue Steel Finishing Trowel — Curved Handle
The blue steel finishing trowel is the last tool to touch the slab, and it's the one that decides how the job looks when the forms come off. Everything before it — screed, float, edger — is prep. This is where you close the surface, tighten it and bring up the shine. A worn or cheap trowel undoes all that work in the final pass.
Build & Materials
Blade is the highest grade hardened and tempered blue steel, properly shaped from the factory so it breaks in fast instead of fighting you for the first month. Blue steel is what finishers ask for by name: it flexes under pressure and springs back, which is what lets you feather a pass instead of digging a line.
The mounting is Marshalltown's Xtralite® aluminum alloy — light but stiff. That combination matters more than it sounds. A heavy mounting wears out your forearm by the third slab; a flimsy one lets the blade twist and you chase ripples. Curved handle style on all sizes here, which most finishers prefer for the wrist angle on flatwork. Made in the USA with global materials.
Handle Options
DuraSoft® — soft grip that absorbs shock through a long pour and doesn't twist in a wet glove. DuraCork® — grippier and drier in hand, a favorite for hot Houston days when your gloves are soaked. Hardwood — the classic build, firm and traditional.
Choosing Your Size
12 x 3 is the control trowel: tight spots, small pours, patchwork, and easier on the wrist when you're working detail. 14 x 3 is the everyday standard for residential flatwork — the size most finishers carry as their main. 16 x 4 covers ground on open commercial slabs, where fewer passes means a flatter, more consistent surface.
Many finishers carry a 14 and a 16 and switch as the slab tightens up.
